Valerie De Fillipo
Valerie De Fillipo is passionate in her belief that women and girls, no matter where they live, should have access to the reproductive health services and contraceptives they want. As the director of Family Planning 2020 (FP2020), Ms. DeFillipo leads the global effort to enable an additional 120 million women and girls to access contraceptive information, services and supplies by 2020.
Ms. DeFillipo is widely respected for her technical expertise, experience leading global multi-stakeholder partnerships, and deep commitment to reproductive health and rights. She began her career at the historic Margaret Sanger Center in New York City and later led Planned Parenthood of Greater Miami, where she designed and implemented an award-winning teen pregnancy prevention center. She has developed programs, provided technical support, and conducted fact-finding missions in countries throughout Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America.
She led the international public affairs division of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, and is the founding director of Planned Parenthood Global Partners. As director of external affairs for International Planned Parenthood Federation, she spearheaded the integration of communication, advocacy, and resource mobilization efforts, and played a key role in organizing the civil society review of the 10th anniversary of the International Conference on Population and Development. Most recently, she served as president of Friends of UNFPA, where she led advocacy, fundraising and public education initiatives in support of the United Nations Population Fund.
Ms. DeFillipo received her MA from Harvard University and completed her undergraduate studies at James Madison University. She currently resides in Washington, D.C.
