Dr Kalpana Apte

Dr. Kalpana Apte is medical doctor who currently heads the Programme Team of the FPA India as the Assistant Secretary General (Programme Implementation). She has worked for over 20 years in various positions ranging from providing SRH FP services as a Junior Medical Officer in a FP clinic to now heading the Programmes of the Association. Her experience includes planning medical services, monitoring quality of services, training various cadres of health care providers in sexual and reproductive health and related issues and programme implementation. Contraceptive technology is one of the key areas of her interest. She has been involved in strategies to expand the contraceptive choices in India, particularly the newer methods like the injectables, Female condoms, vaginal ring and others.

Dr. Apte has a deep understanding of the sexual reproductive health and maternal health needs in India. Her work involves learning from communities and taking their voices and needs to donors and the governments, helping the programmes and policies to become relevant to people’s needs.

She has several publications to her credit & has been awarded by the BMC, Mumbai as a ‘Woman Achiever’ on the International Women’s Day in 2009.
